Rob Phocas made a name for himself as the city of Charlotte’s director of sustainability. He played an integral role in the city’s first strategic energy plan, helped Charlotte gain notice from a Bloomberg Philanthropies environmental campaign and spearheaded the Smart Cities initiative, which sought to improve connectivity, technology and sustainability within eight neighborhoods in the North End district.

Last month, Phocas shifted from the public sector to the private sector. He is now the director of corporate social responsibility at AvidXchange Inc., the fast-growing automated payments provider in Charlotte. This is a new role created at the company.
