If you work at an eligible school and are interested in shopping at Classroom Central, please visit our Teachers Section.

Free Store

Classroom Central’s Free Store is a retail operation where teachers and other school personnel from eligible schools “shop” for free supplies throughout the academic year.  All materials distributed are used to create inviting learning environments and to support the academic and personal growth of students whose families lack the resources needed to purchase school supplies.

The Free Store is located at 2116 Wilkinson Blvd and is open for teacher shopping, by appointment, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and once each month on Saturday mornings. It is staffed and stocked by volunteers who help teachers find what they need, assist them with “check-out” and load free materials into their vehicles.

The Free Store is designed to provide all the materials teachers need to create successful learning environments. In addition to basic supplies like pencils, paper, notebooks, glue sticks and folders, teachers will find backpacks, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) materials and lesson plans, a literacy section that includes books and lesson plans, copy paper, arts and crafts materials, classroom decorations, cleaning supplies, personal care items and more. The average value of supplies received by a teacher at one shop is about $400.

ClassVROOM Central

In 2017, Classroom Central launched its new Mobile Free Store, ClassVROOM Central, making it easier for teachers who work furthest from our Free Store to receive free school supplies for their students.  This “free store on wheels” provides supplies to teachers and students in all six districts we serve. This exciting expansion allows teachers to shop for their classrooms near where they work and hand-select the  items they need for their students need to be successful.

Over the summer months, ClassVROOM Central is out in the community at “Stuff the Truck” school supply collection events.

Classroom UP

Classroom Up is a partnership between Classroom Central and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools that allows CMS teachers from eligible schools to order essential school supplies online and have them delivered directly to their schools. Supplies include pencils, pens, colored pencils, copy paper, loose leaf paper, one-subject notebooks, composition books, pocket folders, and glue sticks.

The Classroom Up program was the first of its kind in the United States.

Backpacks & Basics

Each fall, Classroom Central and its corporate and community partners distribute thousands of loaded backpacks to the highest-need Charlotte-Mecklenburg elementary schools.  All students in the selected schools receive a backpack filled with essential supplies, with sponsors getting the opportunity to attend a distribution and interact with the students.
